Cluster beans ( Kothavarangai ) Masala Poriyal



Ingredients:

  • Cluster beans chopped (1/2 inch ) - 1 cup (240ml)
  • Onion chopped - 1 no ( medium size )
  • Coconut gratings - 1 tblspn
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tspn
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tspn
  • Chilli powder - 1 tspn
  • Garam masala powder - 1/4 tspn or even less
  • Amchur powder - 2 pinch
  • Salt - to taste

For Seasoning:

  • Oil - 2 tspn
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tspn
  • Asafoetida powder - a pinch
  • Curry leaves - few nos

Method:

  • Wash and chop the cluster beans 1/2 inch size and keep it aside
  • Heat oil in a kadai, add the ingredients under For Seasoning
  • After mustard seeds pops out add onion saute it till it turns pink then add ginger garlic paste
  • When the raw smell of the ginger garlic paste goes add cluster beans, turmeric powder, salt and springle hand full of water, close it with lid for cluster beans to cook 
  • When the cluster beans are tender and water evaporated add chilli powder, garam masala , amchur powder and keep it in low flame for few mins
  • Then add coconut gratings saute for a minute and switch off the stove 
  • Serve the tasty cluster beans masala poriyal along with sambar ,rasam or curd rice 
Note:
  • Instead of amchur powder you can use 1/2 tspn of tamarind juice also
