Ingredients:
- Red poha ( Aval ) - 1 cup and 2 tblpsn ( I used red thick poha )
- Coconut gratings - 3 to 4 tblspn
- Green chilli - 2 to 3 nos ( depends on spiceness )
- Salt - to taste
For seasonings:
- Oil - 2 tspn
- Mustard - 1 tspn
- Urad dal - 1 tspn
- Channa dal - 1 tspn
- Asafoetida powder - 1/4 tspn
- Curry leaves - few nos
Method:
- Wash and soak the poha in water for 1/2 hr or even more
- Then drain the water completely , squeeze extra water and keep in a bowl
- To this add salt and smash it with hand nicely, you will get soft chappathi dough like consistency
- You can add chopped green chilli as such or just grind it along with coconut grating in mixie without water and add
- Heat oil in a kadai, add all the seasonings, when dal turns golden brown pour the seasonings to the poha dough
- Mix them well, make what ever shape you like whether round shape or cylinderical and steam it in a idli maker or steamer for 3 to 5 minutes
- Serve the tasty poha kozhukattai hot with any chutneys, This is a healthy snack to children and elders.
