Ananya's Easy Pudalangai ( Snake Gourd ) Meelagu Kootu






Ingredients:
  • Pudalangai ( Snake Gourd ) - 1 large size or chopped 2 cups
  • Moong Dhal - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - 1 tspn ( according to taste )


For Seasonings:
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tspn
  • Cumin Seeds - 1/4 tspn
  • Broken or Whole Urad Dhal - 1/2 tspn
  • Dried Red Chillies - 2 nos
  • Grated Coconut - 2 to 3 tspn
  • Curry leaves - 1 small bunch
  • Asofoetida Powder - 1 tspn
  • Oil - 3 tspn
  • Pepper Powder - 2 or 3 tspn ( according to your spicyness )


Method:

  • Since Pudalangai cooks quickly, cook seperately the chopped Pudalangai with little water and salt until becomes tender 
  • Cook the Moong Dhal with 11/2 cup of water  in pressure cooker for 3 to 4, Then smash them well to creamy consistency
  • Heat 3 tspn of oil in the pan and add the seasoning except Pepper powder and saute well
  • Then add cooked Pudalangai, Moong dhal , Pepper powder and required amount of salt 
  • Keep it in low flame for 2mts
  • Serve the Tasty Pudalangai Meelagu Kootu with rice

Variance:
Instead of adding Pepper powder you can grind the Coconut and whole Pepper and use. It will give different taste
