Ingredients:
- Poha / Aval - 1 cup ( i used thick variety )
- Pepper freshly crushed - 1 to 2 tspn (depends on spicyness )
- Onion - 1 no (big)
- Green chilli or dry red chilli - 1 no
- Curry leaves - few nos
- Roasted peanut - 1 1/2 tspn
- Urad dal - 1 tspn
- Channa dal - 1/2 tspn (optional )
- Asaofoetida - a pinch
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tspn
- Salt - to taste
- Ghee - 2 tspn ( for flavour )
- Oil - 2 tspn
Method:
- Wash thoroughly the poha and soak in water for 3 minutes then drain the water completely
- Heat oil in a kadai, add mustards after it splutters add urad, channa dal (if using dry red chilli add at this stage ) after it turns golden brown add peanut, chopped green chilli , onion
- After onion turns pale pink add asafoetida powder, curry leaves and mix well
- Saute it for a minute then add soaked and drained poha and mix well
- Keep in low flame for 3 to 5 minutes , now add salt , freshly crushed pepper powder
- Keep in low flame for a minute or two , add ghee and switch off the stove
- Serve hot the tasty pepper poha along with roasted channa dal chutney or coconut chutney as side dish.
