Ingredients:
- Rice flour - 1 3/4 cup
- Tamarind - one lemon size
- Chilli powder - 1 tspn
- Salt - to taste
- Gingelly or any refined Oil - 4 to 5 tblpsn
- Asafoetida powder - 1/4 tspn
- Mustard seeds - 1 tspn
- Broken urad dal - 3/4 tspn
- CUrry leaves - few nos
- Water - as required
Method:
- Soak the tamarind in 1 to 1 1/4 cup warm water and take juice from it
- In a wide bowl take the rice flour add chilli powder, salt to it and mix well
- Then add tamarind juice little by little and mix it
- When the rice flour becomes wet ( care should be taken not to add large amount of water ) and keep it aside
- Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard after it splutters add urad dal
- When urad dal turns golden brown add asafoetida powder, curry leaves followed by the wet flour
- Mix all the ingredients well and close the lid
- At regular intervals open and stir it
- If clumps forms break it with the laddle after the texture change switch off the stove(don't keep it for long time it will become rubbery )
- Serve the tangy spicy rice flour upma hot
