Ingredients:
- Bottle gourd - 2 cups and 1 tblspn
- Moong dal - 1/4 cup
- Onion chopped- 1 no
- Tomato chopped - 1 no
- Ginger chopped - 1 tspn
- Garlic chopped - 1 tspn
- Salt - to taste
- Oil - 11/4 tspn
- Water - 3/4 to 1 cup
Dry powders:
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tspn
- Chilli powder - 1/2 tspn
- Coriander powder - 1 tspn
For seasonings:
- Mustard - 1/2 - 3/4 tspn
- Jeera - 1 tspn
- Broken urad dal - 1 tspn
- Dry red chilli - 2 nos
- Curry leaves - few nos
- Asafoetida powder - a pinch
Method:
- Wash cut and peel the skin of the bottle gourd, i took 3/4 part from a big bottle gourd, chop in to 1/2 inch cubes
- In a pressure cooker add water, moong dal, onion,tomato,ginger, garlic, dry powder, salt and cook for 2 to 3 whisle
- Heat oil in kadai add the seasonings and pour this on to the surface of kootu and mix them well
- Serve this tasty bottle gourd kootu along with plain rice or chappathi
Note:
- The above said measurement is the correct consistency of kootu , if you want more thickness then add 3/4 cup water
- I didn't use coconut if you want you can grind coconut , jeera and add this paste keep in low flame for few a minute and then serve
