Bottle Gourd Kootu



Ingredients:

  • Bottle gourd - 2 cups and 1 tblspn
  • Moong dal - 1/4 cup
  • Onion chopped- 1 no
  • Tomato chopped - 1 no
  • Ginger chopped - 1 tspn
  • Garlic chopped - 1 tspn
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 11/4 tspn
  • Water - 3/4 to 1 cup

Dry powders:

  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tspn
  • Chilli powder - 1/2 tspn
  • Coriander powder - 1 tspn

For seasonings:

  • Mustard - 1/2 - 3/4 tspn
  • Jeera - 1 tspn
  • Broken urad dal - 1 tspn
  • Dry red chilli - 2 nos
  • Curry leaves - few nos
  • Asafoetida powder - a pinch

Method:

  • Wash cut and peel the skin of the bottle gourd, i took 3/4 part from a big bottle gourd, chop in to 1/2 inch cubes
  • In a pressure cooker add water, moong dal, onion,tomato,ginger, garlic, dry powder, salt and cook for 2 to 3 whisle
  • Heat oil in kadai add the seasonings and pour this on to the surface of kootu and mix them well
  • Serve this tasty bottle gourd kootu along with plain rice or chappathi

Note:

  • The above said measurement is the correct consistency of kootu , if you want more thickness then add 3/4 cup water
  • I didn't use coconut if you want you can grind coconut , jeera and add this paste keep in low flame for few a minute and then serve
