Ingredients:
- Varagarisi - 2 cups
- Tamarind - lemon size
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tspn
- Salt - to taste
For tempering:
- Oil - 2 tblspn
- Mustard - 1 tspn
- Broken urad dal - 1 tspn
- Channa dal - 1 tspn
- Fried peanut - 2 tspn
- Dry red chilli - 12 nos
- Asafoetida powder - 1/4 tspn
- Curry leaves - few nos
Method:
- Soak the tamarind in warm water and take 2 cups juice from it
- Heat oil in a cooker add all the ingredients given under for tempering and saute after the dal turns golden brown add turmeric powder and tamarind juice, then add 4 cups of water
- After it starts boils add salt and rice and mix well
- Close the lid and pressure cook for 5 to 6 whistle
- Serve the tangy spicy tasty varagarisi puli pongal
