Ananya's Easy and Tasty Lemon Rasam



Health Benefits:

 Lemon contains Vitamin C

Toor Dhal:

Toor dhal contains folic acid an important vitamin for all women. Folic acid is essential for foetal development and can help to prevent neural tube birth defect.

Ingredients:
  • Toor dal - 1/3 Cup
  • Lemon - 1 to 2 no
  • Tomato - 1 no
  • Green Chilli - 2 nos
  • Turmeric Powder - a pinch or 1/4 tspn
  • Coriander leaf - few nos
  • Pepper Powder - 1/4 tspn or a pinch ( optional )
  • Salt  - to taste
  • Water - 3 to 4 cups

For seasoning:
  • Mustard - 1 tspn
  • Asafoetida Powder - a pinch
  • Oil - 3 to 4 tspn
Method 1:
  • Cook the dal in pressure cooker until it becomes soft
  • In a vessel add 1/2 cup of water , chopped tomato, green chillies and allow it to cook
  • when tomato becomes soft switch off the stove and add turmeric powder, salt and coriander leaves
  • To this add the cooked dal, lemon juice by squeezing the lemon and add water according to the taste
  • If want add 1/4 tspn or a pinch of pepper powder to it. Pepper will enhance the taste
  • Heat oil in kadai and add the seasonings, Pour this seasonings to the lemon rasam and serve

Method 2:
  • In a vessel add toor dal, chopped tomato ( medium size ), green chillies along with turmeric powder and salt 
  • cook this mixture in pressure cooker for 3 to 4 whistle or till dal becomes soft
  • To this add lemon juice mix well and add require quantity of water
  • Heat oil in a kadai add the seasonings and pour this to the rasam along with coriander and pepper powder
